We’re looking forward to a great beekeeping season this year and hope you are too! This marks my 33rd year as a beekeeper, and I still remember those early years—purchasing bees without fully understanding how everything worked (and not quite having the courage to ask!).
To give our Bee Buddy community and those purchasing bees from us a behind-the-scenes look, we put together this video! It walks you through the process of raising new colonies each year and how we do it here at City Bee Savers.
🐝 Our Bees’ Journey:
✨ Early in the year – Some colonies head to Florida to get a jump start on growth, while others travel to California to pollinate almond trees.
✨ March – Both groups return to Northern Illinois, where we begin raising NUCs and shaking packages.
✨ April – Where our bees are settling in and prepare to take advantage of Chicagoland’s nectar flows—hopefully producing some of that delicious Midwestern honey!
